Recreation & Wellness

Stay active and fit at our nationally-recognized and award-winning Recreation and Wellness Center. The Center houses three basketball courts, two racquetball courts and multiple fitness areas with every type of weight and exercise equipment to fit your needs – and that’s not even including our swimming pool with a whirlpool. The facility also offers free group fitness classes to students and is the home to MSU’s numerous intrmural sports leagues. Outdoor Adventures allows you to sign up for outdoor trips, take workshops on various survival skills, rent camping and hiking equipment, or kayaks and paddleboards for Eagle Lake. Our rental center also houses a bouldering wall that will challenge your climbing skills

The Recreation & Wellness center is 100% operated by MSU students. Our student staff do a fantastic job assisting our members and patrons with anything they might need to ensure their experience with us is the best it can be. 


We strive to provide a variety of activities to engage our members and promote a healthy life style. Aquatics is a healthy activity that can benefit the body and the mind. By engaging in an aquatics workout your body develops general strength, cardiovascular fitness and endurance. Not to mention, swimming is a great alternative to high-impact exercises that can be stressful on your joints. If you're looking for a more rigorous aquatic work out, swim against the current of the natatorium's vortex feature or try the zipline. Our Pool is competition sized with the lanes being 25 yards long with a maximum depth of 12 feet. Diving blocks are locted in the deep end and are available for use during open swim hours.

Basketball & Racquetball Courts

Our gymnasium houses 3 full-size basketball courts, more than enough space for you to enjoy a game of volleyball or badminton while other students shoot hoops. The courts are prioritized for informal recreation and intramural sports, so there's always an area free for you to use. Self-contained racquetball courts are available adjacent to the gym floor and reservations may be made one day in advance at the equipment room. The equipmetn room is available during regular hours to check our any equipment you may need to play basketball, racquetball, badminton, volleyball, etc. 


The Larry Wilson bowling lanes are located in the Laughlin Gymnasium, room 111. The facility housing 6 lanes with electronic scoring and is opne Tuesday- Saturday from 5-9pm for open bowling. The Wilson Lanes also offers league play as well as group and Kozmik bowling. The Wilson lanes is where the MSU club bowling team practices. This state-of-the-art facility holds over 100 machines and equipment, allowing you to complete a total body workout each time you enter our doors. The variety and amount of new equipment increases your workout time while decreasing your wait. Machines are strategically placed throughout the facility, giving you the option to work out in the heart of the gym, or while enjoying the relaxing scenery of MSU's beautiful campus. New cardio equipment includes connections for your smartphone or mp3 player and built-in television monitors.

Group Fitness

Our comprehensive and customized approach helps you make healthy decisions to benefit you now and long into the future. With classes including yoga, cycling and kickboxing and services including personal training with wellness assessment, the RWC is the place to achieve your goals for total body fitness. Your health is more than the physical condition of your body. When one area gets out of balance, it usually affects the other aspects of your life. Our Wellness services are created to help you assess your current fitness and wellness level and achieve a healthy, well-balanced life. Group Fitness classes are held throughout each semester so be sure to find a class that's right for you!

Indoor walking track and lounge

There's nothing worse than running in the cold and snow. Luckily, the Center houses a multilane, indoor walking track. Overlooking the basketball courts, the track is surrounded by cardio equipment and stretching areas. Once you've worked up a sweat, cool off by enjoying our lounge and game room. A big screen television with foosball and table tennis are provided so you and your friends can meet up after a work out or just for fun betwen classes.


The Intramural program provides a variety of recreational opportunities for the MSU community.  Individual/Dual activities include badminton, tennis, golf, racquetball, basketball skills competition (spot shot, 3 point, free throw), corn toss, table tennis, bowling and swimming.  Team sports such as softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, bowling, golf, tug-of-war, beach volleyball, swimming, wallyball, dodgeball, wiffleball and ultimate Frisbee are offered during the appropriate season.  Informal (’drop in’) recreational opportunities such as racquetball, basketball, volleyball, and game tables are available whenever the Recreation and Wellness Center is open for business.

Outdoor Adventures

MSU is proud to provide our students with Outdoor Adventures, a multifaceted program that exposes students to new experiences and challenges. Outdoor Adventures trips take place all over the state, region  and country that range from day hiking to skiing to white water rafting. The Challenge Course is located right in front of the Recreation and Wellness Center is open to students, faculty, staff and the community. This multilevel ropes course is comprised of both low and high elements, which are designed to enhance your groups' trust, teamwork, leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

Outdoor Adventures also offers gear rentals to anyone looking for an adventure. The rental center has tents, sleeping bags, stoves, rain gear, climbing equipment and so much more. Students can rent gear using beaker bucks which makes it even easier to get outside.

The newest addition to the Outdoor Adventures program is the bouldering wall. Located in the rental center, students and members can climb the wall anytime the rental center is open. Our staff ensure routes are added and/or changed each week so it is never a dull moment in Outdoor Adventures.
